When I first started reading this I automatically thought Atticus! So if its a boy I would go with that! Caspian is also a nice name, but I'm not too sure of Aslan. I like all the girl names except Hester. It makes me think of a little old lady in a nursing home.

I'm more into older novels ...
Rhett & Scarlett, Ashley & Melanie from Gone With the Wind
Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth (sisters) from Little Women
Christopher Robin from the Winnie-the-pooh stories
From the choices you listed, I like Caspian and Miranda Pearl.
Have you thought of maybe naming the child after the author of the book instead of a character in the book?
Louisa May Alcott
Margaret Mitchel
Sydney Sheldon (The Sands of Time is one of my favorite books)
Danielle Steele (my most favorite author ... far too many books and character names to choose from)
Nora Roberts
Just suggestions ... Best Wishes and Congratulations

How about Jenna Rain for a girl? The books, RAIN IS NOT MY INDIAN NAME AND JINGLE DANCER by Cynthia Leitich Smith with characters named Jenna and Rain. I thought putting them together sounded very pretty! I don't know if you happen to have any American Indian in your blood as many of us do, but either way, this is a beautiful name. I liked the boys name Aslan from Chronicles of Narnia. Either way, instill a love of books in your child. That is the very best gift you can give your child besides love of course! Congratulations to you!

I think Atticus is a clear winner for a boy.
The girls are a little tougher. Hester Prynne is a noble character, but a small child might not understand the concept. Actually, even a teenager might not get it. And Pearl might be Hester's daughter, but that's not the most common association.
In fact, that's true of most female names with their origins in literature - they quickly pass into use and lose their ties. Some - Hepzibah from Hawthorne's House of the Seven Gables, or Zenobia, from the Blithdale Romance - are more obscure, but perhaps for good reason.
The one name that might be a possibility is Harper, as in Harper Lee. Or back to the library ...

I love the name Hester for a girl because it can be paired with so many different middle names. As for a boy, I like the name Oliver from "Oliver Twist".

Love Atticus!
I would avoid Hester, but I like your general idea.
How about Ophelia, Cordelia, Desdemona, Bianca, or Portia, if you like Shakespeare.

i think the idea is neat. do the books/stories mean anything to you? can you live with calling your son atticus? or your daughter HESTER??? i'm sorry, the only one i can even consider is miranda and nobody would even know it was from a book. what about holden? i met a boy named holden. i think it works. but maybe rethink these names.
