As mentioned the "xi" has all wheel drive, and the "i" is only rear wheel drive.

As to which is better, it depends. The "xi" is heavier, slower, uses more fuel, but is better in winter and foul weather conditions. They are both strictly road cars, no off road capability.

Personally, I would rather have the nimbler more fuel efficient "i", but you most likely have different priorities. I grew up driving rear wheel drive cars in the winter, and am very comfortable with them, and thus am not inclined to incur the costs (money and loss of sporting feel) that goes with all wheel drive.

The xi means that the car is a 4*4 and has the XDrive system which is a BMW developed 4*4 system that can take the car out of a difficult situation even if only one wheel has good traction

Bayerisches Motoren Werke, that's the truly German call. In Germany, BMW is stated bey-emm-vee! Translated into English it skill no better than Bavarian Motor production facility, not so remarkable in case you translate it actually!!

325 xi have xDrive, which is intelligent all-wheel-drive system.
while 325i have basic rear-wheel drive.

Thats the only difference.
