Yes, nailpolish is harmful when you are pregnant because the chemicals in it can enter your system and therefore harm the baby. Read this article for the details:

Manic Manicures
Many pregnant women find that their nails tend to grow more quickly, producing a need to groom them more often. What once was a three or four times a year task now becomes a once-a-month visit.

“Normally, my nails break and are very brittle so I keep them short,” says Crystal Riggs, a small business owner from Seneca, S.C. “I only have to trim or groom my nails every couple months because they just don’t grow. But during my pregnancy, my nails grew longer, stronger, held up to everything including kids and dishes. I loved the fact that I ‘needed’ to go to the salon to get my nails done, something I normally wouldn’t do.”

Visit any manicurist and you will see the finest collection of chemicals, from nail polish and removers to oils, paints and skin treatments, all believed to be safe. But according to a recent report from the Food and Drug Administration, research indicates that chemicals in nail polish, nail polish removers and the like, namely methyl methacrylate and acetonitrile (a chemical that breaks down into cyanide when swallowed), are in fact dangerous and can cause numerous health problems including skin irritation, contact dermatitis, rashes, poisoning and even death. These facts alone cause a concern and fear of manicures.

But according to manicurist, Heather Jacobson, it all depends upon the chemicals used – and who uses them. “Not all manicurists use the same products or use them in the same way,” says Jacobson. “For example, I use mostly natural or biodegradable products and the nail polish I use on my customers is ‘edible.’ It’s not that you could eat it right from the bottle, but if you do ingest it – as most women do from time to time from biting their nails, licking their fingers, etc. – it won’t harm you, as it has only natural ingredients. But others may still use products that contain chemicals that are not safe during pregnancy or otherwise. It is best to ask your manicurist or request she/he use natural products. And if you’re not sure, simply skip the nail polish and have your nails buffed for a natural shine.”
i hope this helped u out some!!! the website link is provied also! GOOD LUCK!!

I'm not sure about nail polish but you're not suppose to do anything with chemicals- no perms, no hair products, no dyes or coloring, no gel or grease or anything like that- you re suppose to be as natural as humanly possible. I'm not even sure if makeup is a good idea. When I was pregnant I had to go out and buy some petroleum jelly to get my hair braided. These chemicals can come to the baby through your skin and pores and for some people can affect the child.

If you want to do your nails maybe just a nice manicure with a buff and no acrylic might do the job. Trust me, pregnancy will be over before you know it. The hardest is the last two months.

No one really knows for sure. Many women paint their nails when they're pregnant and their babies aren't deformed by it. Then again, you need to decide if you want those kinds of chemicals passing to your baby's bloodstream. Pregnancy is a time when you need to ignore what "most" people are doing and make an intelligent decision for your baby. The problem with asking if something is harmful is that if it hasn't been PROVEN to be harmful, it's considered generally safe. But what does that really mean?

In truth; hair dye is only safe during pregnancy when used to streak hair out from the scalp area. Nail polish is not safe Research online

yes it is very.

"The chemicals formaldahyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate are used in most nail polishes. Since the nails are an extension of the skin, the chemicals are absorbed into your body and can make you feel sick. Long term exposure to these toxins can cause cancer and other serious illness. Toxic chemicals in cosmetics are especially dangerous for pregnant women, as the chemicals can enter the bloodstream of the mother and harm the development of the fetus.

Toluene is a human reproductive toxin. Formaldehyde is a carcinogen that has been shown to cause cancer in lab animals. Dibutyl Phthalate is a chemical used in making plastics. It is known to cause infertility, as well as uterine problems in women and testicular cancer in men. Dibutyl Phthalate is one of the most toxic chemicals to the human body, and most cosmetic companies are discontinuing it’s use, but it is a slow process. Pregnant women should be especially careful to avoid the use of dibutyl phthalate because it has been shown to harm a developing male fetus."

even though some nail polishes may claim not to contain these ingredients, would you risk it?
so weigh up the options: pretty nails or healthy baby? shouldn't be a hard decision :)

Not at all! Just make sure you are in a well-venilated area while applying your polish. Also try to avoid having fake nails (acrylic, gel, etc.) put on, staying in a salon environment and breathing the salon chemical fumes can be harmful to your baby!

You are going to get all kinds of different answers here as I'm sure you know, I personally think it is fine. but if you re really that worried about it why question it just dont do it, its that simple. i surely know if i thought for one second it would hurt my unborn baby i would steer clear, however there are plenty of other things to worry about during pregnancy other than nail polish hair dye etc....if your in a fret about this now just wait until the baby arrives lol good luck :P

Honestly, I try to stay away from unfiltered water, fake sugars, etc... So nail polish for me is just another chemical to avoid while pregnant...
But your body is so resilient and so is your baby.
I would say don't worry, but I don't do it.

I dont think that is that bad. Maybe avoid in the first three months. Dont get your nails done at the salon for sure though. The chemicals that they use to put those fake nails on are horrid.
