Greece has more to offer:
Greece attracts well over 16 million tourists a year
Although Greece has always been a popular tourist destination, It has been criticised many times for lagging behind other Western European nations interms of tourism infrastructures and amenities. This has been greatly improved however since the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
It is home to some of the best beaches in the world, rich in history and has great night life

Greece if you want something more relaxed, laid-back; Italy if you want something more metropolitan, on-the-go.
Greece for more history; Italy for more 'modern' culture.
Greece for a warmer climate; Italy for a more moderate weather.
Greece for more diversity; Italy for more consistancy.
Greece for something more remote; Italy if you're looking to expand your travels [elsewhere].
[[Personally, I'd choose the Greek Islands... specifically Skyros.]]

Well, Greece and Italy are two different countries, although somewhat similar in different aspects. But, they have different things and places to offer.
