I write freelance articles for the fun of it. Their usually my opinion on political topics or idea of a solution to certain problems. I usually post them on my site but I'd like to take the next step. How do I get a magazine to publish my articles? I'm not looking to make it big or anything I'd just like to try and publish an article.

First of all decide what you want to write about. Write about something you know. If you have any hobbies consider writing about them. There are many hobby magazines out there and you probably already read a few of them. It sounds like you might already be headed this way with your problem solving articles.
Secondly, get a camera and learn how to use it. Editors like articles that are illustrated and well written. If you can do both you can more that double your chances of getting published. Most magazines have writer's guidelines that they will mail to you or are posted on line.
Next, submit, submit, submit. It's a numbers game out there and the more you submit the better your chances of getting published. Don't take a little rejection to hard. As someone else has said, don't aim too high the first couple of times out.
I wouldn't worry too much about copyrights. If you want to protect your articles cheaply, mail yourself a copy and dont open the envelope. That way if there is ever an issue you can verify the creation date through the postmark.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Any current publication of (and even not-so-current) Writer's Digest. There are many categories for the writer to choose from. That's how I got into the field as an "unpublished" author. Don't do it anymore because I know my writing sucks but read the listings in it carefully. Pick the one that best describes your writings as to what they're looking for. I was one of the lucky ones who had my submissions accepted without solicitation or representation of an agent. If you set your goals too high you'll end up with endless rejection slips and that could cause your motivation to plummet. But you have to know your market and which publication is best suited for it. Do your research before submitting anything anywhere.

If readers are interested in your views, they will flock to your site and read them. if they are not interested in your views, then.... keep them to yourself.
