worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but it doesnt get you anywhere

Not necessarily. Idle worrying does very little for somoene, true. However, worrying helps inspire you to plan or take needed action, to think ahead, to consider consequences, and maybe not live so hedonistically. That is not a bad thing and can, in fact, make for a much more spirited and pleasant tomorrow.

However, like anything else, there is balance needed here. A person has to keep in mind that there is only so much one can do, and some things are just simply beyond our control.

Perhaps a wiser saying is: grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change (so don't worry anymore), courage to change the things I can (so worrying here may get you to do it!), and the wisdom to know the difference (when to worry AND when to quit!).

In real term life, controlled worrying can act as a catalytic in spurring us in to action .What's really harmful is plain worrying and not when worrying is accompanied by action to tackle the situation.
