I used to pay for Norton Internet Security up to now....
Should I extend my service, or do you recommend some other free antivirus which is just as good?

There are free anti-virus scanners availble. They work well. I like AVG the best of all the free anti-virus programs.
If you are not willing to spend money it is good to have some kind of anti-virus software

avg

avast

Avira AntiVir

For a Cost
This is my recommendation for anti-virus. Free are good, but they are not as accurate as the top paid anti-virus software. Not a fan of Norton its a resource hog

Top-Tier
Kaspersky

Nod32

Hello, I don't like to pay for anything, because I'm a believer of Open Source and freeware. I've used AVG Free Edition and found it to be really good, but currently I am trying out avast!, and that's going well too.

I think Norton is a waste of money, and so are any other anti-virus that cost, although AVG would be almost worth upgrading to proffessional ed.

I have tried out a number of Anti-virus programs.

The ones I found most beneficial are:-
-Kaspersky Internet security
-Nod32

They are both light on the computer and they catch a lot of spy ware and Trojans which other Anti-virus programs can not detect.
Try them out and you will fall in love with them.
BTW, one of them is enough, you do not need both.

Try free AVG...get it from www.download.com . Key in 'avg' in Download.com search box and download free from the results page.

Once installed, update your free AVG as often as you can like daily.

I recommend AVG Anti-virus.
It's free, updates almost everyday so you are safe.
That's what I use.
