Hey,
I'm auditioning for Seussical the Musical and I was wondering what part you think would suit me best out of Gertrude, Mayzie La Bird and Mrs Mayor? Which character do you think is coolest to play?
I am female obviously, a teenager (our school is putting it on so age isnt an issue) and an alto. I can't sing very high but I can belt out some of the high-ish notes (as long as its not too high!) I can also dance and act reasonably well.

A few of you have said Gertrude sings a lower/more alto range than the others - I was under the impression she was soprano and Mayzie was alto/soprano....thats just what it says beside the character outlines I've read :S

I would audition for Gertrude and see what happens. She's much more of a lead than the other roles. I think although Mayzie is fun, she's actually not in a lot of the show. Mrs. Mayor is a smaller role too, but at least you would be on stage during ensemble stuff unlike Mayzie who seems to take off...

I would say Gertrude. She doesn't sing that high, except maybe one or two notes, but those can be belted out. She is also one of the main characters.
Mrs. Mayor, on the other hand, is a fairly small part and sings harmony, accompanying Mr. Mayor. The range varies here.
Mayzie LaBird sings pretty high, a soprano would probably be needed here to fill this part.

I'm in Seussical and I play a jungle citizen. Based on my observations, gertrude is the best for you. She sings Alto most of the time and is very dramatic.
