I believe that the most important historical event in the last 500 years, since 1492, was the unification of the German people. I would change that if I had the power. This is the event that led to everything else. When this happened in 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War, France was defeated and humiliated. She wanted revenge and Alsalce-Lorraine back. This was one of the main causes of WWI. The Versailles Treaty that ended in Germany's defeat led to the humiliation and destruction of her economy. The Nazis exploited this in their rise to power. This led to WWII and the Holocaust, the destruction of European Jewry. WWII led to the defeat of Germany, the rise of the Soviet Union and Communism, the Cold War and arms race. Also WWII and the Holocaust led to the founding of the State of Israel. That led to Arab nationalism and finally to Islamic terrorism. So you see that nothing has changed Europe, and thus the world as the unification of the German people. For most of history they were divided into hundreds of harmless states. I don't blame the Germans for all the trouble in the world. But that event in 1870 is the most important event that has happened in the last 500 years because everything that has happened since has stemmed from it. I would change that event.

You wouldn't dare change a single event in history....haven't you heard not to mess with the space time continuum?

Consider the idea of killing Hitler when he was a baby. A riteous idea, right?

Wrong, consider the possible consequence. You kill Hitler as a young child, years later, say 1933, Ernst Roehm instead becomes dictator, in mid 1930s, HE decides to begin 'heavy water' experiments which lead to the first nuclear bomb built in 1939. With that device, he easiliy defeats mother russia and the allies, and the Final Solution is 'completed.'

Your mistep in the space time continuum caused the death of ALL European Jewry and enslavement of half the planet...way to go!....you should'a stayed home in bed where it was safe and leave the living to others..

Hitler's rise to power. Had Germany continued its democratic evolution and had not precipitated WW II in Europe, the U.S. could have turned its full attention to defeating the Japanese much quicker than actually happened. And the greatest conflagration in history could have been avoided.

I will reunite Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and make Scotland become an independent nation. These countries were overshadowed by England and it's their time to stand up and raise the voice!

Either there would have been no Holocaust, or the leaders of the supposed democratic countries would have accepted the Jews, gays, political dissidents, etc. anxious to flee Nazi Germany.
