China is hardly a communist country today. They have adapted their economy since the days of Mao towards what would be considered a quasi-capitalistic system. While they are still a dictatorship, led by the "communist party of China," this is more of a misnomer than anything.
They are by no means a shining example of free market economics, though. Their artificially low exchange rate keeps their exports at unnaturally low prices, and allows them to beat out competition.
Further, this is just covering the economics of it. China has an atrocious human rights record, and no matter what you want to call the current government and system, it isn't working in this area at all.

I have to agree with the others it has not worked any where. My parents ran away from it after the second world war and their relies in the old country were still trying to send them sugar when they had a little extra. They had no idea how different life is in the luckier countries who have not been so affected. My father was not allowed to go back even for a visit to see his parents. He tried to bribe a taxi driver when he was close to the border but did not have any luck. The idea is to keep the population ignorant which is becoming harder to do. He did bring back photos of people lining up for bread meat petrol. There was a shortage of everything. Hard for us to believe or imagine. Going into a supermarket where there is nothing on the shelves !

Hold on a second! communism hasnt worked well anywhere....its a great idea but it doesnt work...if you read the communist manifesto Karl Marx actually says this at the conclusion.
China has had major famines in recent years! The economy is China is booming and there is a growing middle class of rich industrialists...
Do you know any Chinese people? The Chinese are cunning business people and born to trade --- did you ever notice that the Indian take away will give you free popdadoms etc with your food but the Chinese will charge 50c extra to fry your rice?

China has never actually been communist. There has never been a worker's revolution in China, which is a requirement before communism becomes reality. Read a little Marx if you are really interested.

China, currently is gradually turning to capitalism and communism contradicts that, so sooner or later they will adopt democracy. So communism is not working in China.
They form of communism most countries used is not the true form of communism. Communism can't work because it does not bring profit as much as capital because, while capitalism is self interest, communism is government-interest.
Communism sucks because they are so much countries advocating anti-communism they is no room for them to flourish. So communism is a fail idealogy.

Simple...as a form of government it doesn't work. Read up on Chinese history. Notice the similarities to the Soviet model? The people have been kowtowing to the communist regime for so long that it has become commonplace to them. Remember the lack of Chinese public outrage from the Tiananmen Square Massacre? Fear works in keeping the masses in line.

How has it "worked"? Most people in China are forced to survive on less than five gallons of water a day, only three percent of what we use in the US. They have totally deforested their country in an effort to build enough housing to support their severe over population. They have the most polluted air on the planet. And most of their workers earn less in a day than most Americans earn in one hour. Many of them earn just one dollar a day!
This is what you consider to "work"?
What little economy they have is the result of capitalist interactions with other nations. Their internal economy cannot even feed the masses.
They have a mortality rate during birth that is one of the highest in the world. Workers on construction projects die at nearly one hundred times the rate in western nations, because life is cheaper than proper safety precautions.
Their media and their internet are both burdened by heavy handed government censorship. They are not allowed public dissent. Remember Tiannamon square?
I what way do you think this regime "works"?
True, a very small percentage of the population has become quite wealthy. But, the average standard of living is just slightly above the middle ages, and way below what Americans consider to be poverty.
If you consider a repressed, endangered, impoverished and underfed population evidence of what "works", then you are correct.

Actually, it sucks in China too.
Theoretically, Communism is a failure, because a country ruled by the people with no govt. would be taken over by another country.
