Hey Steve. Great Q.
After soooo many tales read and movies seen; regarding this; obviously Castaway; with Tom Hanks has some clues; as does the HATCHET series of survival books.
A Knife of some HEFT would help; and be far more versatile than a Hatchet. Even a Hatchet with a "hammer" back would be of little use with nothing to "NAIL"
The knife would certainly need to be kept sharp but I wouldn't ask for that; as I'd hope for rocks; shells; etc. for that purpose. The versatility of it would supplant many other tools and appliances.
Since you state "tools"; and HUT building; I'd probably stop there; and ask to be allowed some time to consider.
The Knife would allow cutting obviously, of those substances most needed and hopefully in supply for the hut. Palm leaves; foliage of any species; fiberous plants to create "Rope" / binding materials; Framing; etc. etc. The list could go on and on.
Food would be an issue; as would Fire; but those can be created. I might hope for Flint; but wouldn't waste a wish on it. AHHHHH...BUT.... FUEL for a fire might be an issue?
Lastly and selfishly; I might wish the SHE Genie, remain OUT OF the bottle for as long as I might be stranded.
I hope never to be again; but have been in situations in life when a "Genie" was what I wished for.
Good Q, hopefully not sent in a bottle from some Island you're trapped on. Kinda neat though that so many tales have been generated from truth and fiction in this context; and I read all I can find. I have a quote I'll offer. "Sometimes the "Journey" can be as fulfilling; as ANY destination."

A hammer/hatchet (yes, it's 1 tool)-for felling timber and hammering dowels.
And adz (it's an offset large headed axe) for planing tree surfaces flat, and skinning bark off timbers, shaved portions make for good kindling and tree fibers can be fashioned into twine for lashings.
A good bowie knife. Good for wood boring and peg shaping. Would make it easier for detail joints on hut ends, and is a more manageable tool for small work. Chinese proverb says you shouldn't use a cannon to kill a mosquito.
Oh, that guy from Extreme home Make over...Yeah, he's a tool alright....And not in a good way.
I am a building contractor, and believe what I say....he is a tool.

I'm feeling a hatchet with the flat back. Also a knife, although I may consider a machete, especially if its a tropical island. I would be able to strip a tree easier with it.Lastly I would want a shovel, to be able to place the beams into the ground.
