frankly i dont think they are intentionally rude but the ones that I think you are talking about are bitter.
Bitter about being old and having to follow all the new rules and move with the rest of society.
I can tell these people a mile off (a skill learnt from my job) the easiest way to deal with them is to just be polite dont be drawn into their little games and frankly if they want to carry on just sit there take yourself away to that special place til they run out of steam.
last time ten mins ago- before that maybe friday lunch.
I was sitting at my desk when the old duck came in and i called out if i could help her at all, she ignored me then when i hopped up and went and stood next to here and offered assistance she went off... logically about nothing relevant to anything that had prevailed before, oh well dealt with it and passed it on back to the forgettable part of memory... lol

At the hospital the other day, a lady refused to step aside so I could use the courtesy phone to call for a ride home. She was standing in line to check-in--blocking the phone---and I think she thought I was trying to cut in. My DD suggested that the women probably didn't speak English and didn't understand me or my intentions. Maybe she was right. It was aggravating. But I went to another place and asked to use their phone and told them what happened. They helped me.

Today I was shopping at Walgreens, they had a sale on canned Mandarin oranges. As I reached for the last can on the shelf, an old lady riding her motorized scooter down the aisle barreled over me and cackled, "Yoink!" as she took my Mandarin oranges and sped off to the checkout counter.

Hmm probably when I was little. My 3rd grade class had to go to a retirement home and sing Christmas carols, and we had to pass out little cactuses that we decorated, and then give the elderly people a hug. I tried to give an old man one and hug him but he said no and gave it back to me and told me to go away.
Psh! Somebody was in a bad mood :/ it made me cry.

Ok you asked.
This old lady was in a nursing home & never spoke to anyone.
If she became angry she'd wait till everyone was asleep then throw poo at the wall & smear it all over the bed rails.
When someone came in to clean up the mess she would just laugh silently with a devilish grin on her face.
Moments later there would be a fake sad face & she would offer to hug someone with her poo covered hands. Then the devlish grin would come back again with the laughter.
It was a nightmare to clean up. I dont work there anymore lol.

My mother-in-law is elderly (85 years old) and she was rude by going through my things when she was alone in my house and living with us. She is also rude when she says, "That's a new blouse you have. How much?"
But I still love her:)

I haven't had one be rude to me...but maybe if it happened to you, they weren't feeling good, or maybe you said something rude to them first. I am only 39 and I promise you, I can see myself being really defensive when I get old just because of the way society is going right now.
