My question was originated to verify or confront the topic of a casual conversation with friends on why since 2000 (the very close presidential election) the colors were some how “switched” and somebody argued that back on 2000 he watched a Fox News report on a study made in England about the effect of the colors to influence the masses. They discovered that red had a higher intrinsic power to facilitate influence the public, compared with blue; and because the Soviet Union was not longer a treat identifiable with red some advisors on the Republican Party thought it would be safe and beneficial to associate their party with this color when appealing to voters on elections campaigns.
(If true, then it worked in 2000 and in 2004) Since I had no other source on this a decided to ask Yahoo, but it seems nobody else knew about this theory and it might not be true at all. I think the issue is still debatable.

I asked the same question some time ago. Red was historically known as the Communist color, and thus should logically be associated with the Democrat party, which is much closer in ideology.

However in the 2000 election, the networks had these red and blue election maps they all used, and hung red on the GOP that year. Since it was such a close and divisive election, the color stuck. Thus there are now Red states and Blue states.

The liberals in the media changed it.

It was a way of creating a disgraceful distraction away from the Communist ways of the Democrat party, which are signified by red.

Blue should be equated with the calm, peaceful sense that the Republican party represents, and I'm aware that everyone is not a shining pillar, but that's besides the point.

This whole thing needs to be changed. I have never accepted the "blue Democrat" and "red Republican" system, nor will I ever. The color red has nothing to do with the Republican party, at all.

THIS IS SOCIAL ENGINEERING INSTIGATED BY THE LIBERAL MEDIA!

The official colors haven't changed. It was when the Clinton vs Bush I back in 94? That the media started deviding the states up in red and blue.

Dems are blue - just look at the maps the media use.

I Googled "2008 electoral college map" and picked the first map I saw. No political statement is intended so don't give me a thumbs down if you disagree with the map.

Next time you want to check it out for yourself watch the conventions, and you will see that the democrats are blue and white and republicans red and white.

I believe they used to alternate red and blue every four years. For example, if you look at an electoral map of Reagan's victory in 1984, almost every state is blue.
