It will end when Blizzard wants it to end.

I remember when I thought the Warcraft series ended with the Alliance drove most of the Hordes back to the portal and closed it from the human side, but what happened after that? Led by Arthas, the scourge opened it up (partly) to summon the huge demon (was it Kil'Jaeden? I forgot).

In WoW we get to fight Illidan and Kael, whose endings were stopped abruptly in WC3. Then in the next expansion we'll get a taste of Arthas. According to the lore that should be it. All the main characters presented and beaten. But should that be the last of it?

Remember when Blizz announced the "side-story" of the whole Warcraft lore with the rise of the C'thun? The whole debacle of bugs versus dragonflights? Ahn'Qiraj and such? That's how easily Blizzard can keep the WoW franchise interesting. Don't forget we still have a lot of backstory unanswered, such as Aszhara, Emerald Dream and the rest of the dragons, etc etc. One thing that still baffles me is why Desolace is so dry but just a few clicks from it is Feralas and its lush woods...

So.. how will it end? I guess when it's back to its original course: when only Hordes and Alliance are left. Then they go at it again :)

Well, there have been many popular games that ended, some ended because a better game came out, while some simply died out. I dont know when exactly World of Warcraft will end though ^_^

Ultima on-line going reliable 13+ years. unique Everquest 11+ years. Even finding on the top subscription of those video games they never even got here on the brink of WoW's 12 million. i think of that is risk-free to assert that as WoW is on its 6th 365 days that there are a minimum of 10 greater to return.

well it depends if the next expansion is a big hit with its new "god hero" the black night.

i think there will be a god hero by the end of the series for each race or at least one for the horde and one for the alliance
