When you have to weld on a frame of a motorcycle is there a risk of harming the charging system?? Say if i need to weld mounts for a different gas tank or the foot rest assembly??? What precautions do I need to take?
Thanks.

Be sure the ground cable from the welder is connected to the frame and keep weld sparks away from battery. You should use a low hydrogen electrode as the frame is high tensile steel. A 3/32" dia. would do well.

i'm a welder by employing commerce, and it incredibly isn't any longer a over night element, somewhat no longer welding tubs.I is a hands on have been given to do it technique. It takes time to be taught what the molten steel looks like and the thank you to make it like that. It takes time to run it strait and stable. there is many good books that could supply you with the understanding yet u could desire to do it. you do no longer choose for to place a weld down and seem good yet as quickly as ut gets a stress for driving a bypass tracks it breaks interior the line.take the class or confer with the interior reach custom shops to be sure if some one will construct what you opt for or is primary with some one that dose. Welding is welding. you will could desire to commence on plate (strait strains) previously u can weld around tubes/pipe. Mig and Tig is what maximum use to weld on vehicles as extra administration on the warmth.

if you do any welding near an ignition module or ecm put an old license plate grounded to the frame between the module & the arc.
the uncontroled induction field created when you strike an arc could alter the programing.
a license plate makes a good spatter shield anyway.

With some brands, welding on a frame will void any warranty that might be in force...just wanted to throw that in...K ;o)

I'd be worried about splatter from your welding process and shielding any chrome, plastic or paint you didnt want to mess up
