Today at my school there was a threat written in the bathroom. Tonight are principal sent out this message:Late this afternoon a student reported inappropriate graffiti written on a bathroom wall at our high school. The graffiti included threats against our school.

The high school administrative team along with the Avon Lake Police Department have taken all precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff.

On Friday, October 26, 2007, we will have additional law enforcement on hand throughout the school day.

At this point and time we have no reason to believe that it is necessary to disrupt our educational environment for our students.

Sincerely,
Dr. Walker

Do you think they are handling this situation properly? In this day and age you have to take all threats serioulsy and a couple extra cops at my shoool probally want make a difference if there is a problem. Should I stay home?

I think that the administration was super-right to have extra cops on hand. Some may have said that the administration overreacted, but I love what they did- it's wayy better to be safe than sorry!

It would depend on what the threat was. If it was a vague threat with no specific target, then being cautious and having extra police is the thing to do.

If it is a specific target or a bomb threat or something like that, then they should probably do more in the way of searches and security.

Tell your parents how you feel and then decide together if you should stay home. You know this may just be someone trying to get out of a test. That happened twice while I was in college during finals week.

Probably someone trying to get an exam delayed. Expect all entrances but one to be closed and for a metal detector to be at the front door. Schools in many cities operate under those rules every day.

Your education is very, very important and I don't make it a point to tell kids to skip school but...I know if I was your age, I would not be going. Better safe than sorry. If I was your parent you would have my permission to stay home.
