Yes and No
We have a fish pond and some of our goldfish and koi lose their scales and yes they will grow back. Ours lost their scales because of each other and flashing which is healthy, but there could also be other issues such as stress or parasites which is unhealthy. Check the fish for any abnormalities and if you don't see anything than it could be from each other or themselves. Try adding stress coat in the water to see if that would help. Just keep the water clean and watch your fish for any changes. Good luck with your fish

Check your ammonia, it sounds like your fish has ammonia poisening or nitrite poisening

a fish to loose scales is usually caused by bad water qualities

Hope that helps
Good luck

I'm not an expert,
but sometimes larger fish or algae eaters bite/suck them off,
and sometimes they get sick and they lose their scales.

They don't want to know how much weight they gain / lose.
