a question was asked on t.v as to what the load of a car was. i thought frame but the answer was chassis. whats the difference?

check these definitions: frame: http://www.motorera.com/dictionary/FR.HTM ; chassis: http://www.motorera.com/dictionary/CH.HTM (in both cases you have to scroll down a bit)
So as hottotrotetc points out, chassis is bigger than frame. But note in the definition of frame, 'load-carrying members of a vehicle', so in reference to the original question on tv, it might be a bit ambiguous.

The term chassis includes the frame, wheels, etc but not the body or engine
