Meaning you were only officially given a first and last name at birth? You can legally add one -- just a form and a small fee, I believe -- if there's a certain name you have in mind. If you simply want a middle name to use for practical purposes, when one is required, you can also choose to use your maiden name or mother's maiden name as a middle, without legally adding it. My mother-in-law had to do just that when her identity was stolen, since her unusual maiden name makes that a far more difficult prospect for any future identity thieves.

Hope that helps.

You would have to do it legally to make it official, but if you just want to try it out with friends, go ahead. No one will be any the wiser. Just don't sign any official documents using the middle name until you get it switched.

if there is no middle name on your birth certificate, it is a simple matter to add one--did this for my second son. Go to Bureau of Vital Statistics in your city or state and ask for name change form--pay a small fee, and it is done.
