It is so much cheaper to just build the the panels on the ground. They could build several for the price of getting one set of panels in to space and transport them to the ground.
The cost of getting items in to space is $500 a kilogram.
A one kilogram panel can produce 4.4 watts. It sells for less than one 5th of the cost of getting it in to space.

The further you get form the sun, the weaker the suns rays, so solar power is only good when your close to the sun. To build a solar powered satellite around the moon for instance would be futile.

I believe all our satellites are solar powered. There's got to be hundreds up there already.
The power generated powers the satellite. There's no way to send that power back to earth. Think about it.
