I found these coins today...they are from when my grandma went on a trip to Japan in the 70's. I am not planning on going anytime in the future, so I mind as well get the money. Is there any currency places that take coins? They range in years from 1942 to the 1970's.

Go to a coin club or dealer that has world coins and ask for their opinion if any are collectible. For all the rest, I believe the exchange rate is about 110 Yen to the dollar. The idea of an airport exchange desk is not bad, since most banks do not want to do conversions.

Find a bank that will exchange currency, usually any large bank in a good sized city. They will probably charge a small fee.
You might want to determine if 2256 yen is really that much.
It might be around $2.50 and not worth converting.
Might want to keep for sentimental value.

The early date coins may be worth more as numismatic value
than just converting them since the 40's were an important time in Japanese history.
