A player named Ray Chapman who played for the Indians was beaned in a 1920 game and died a couple of days later because of it.

Chapman in 1920 and Coolbaugh just this year are two well-known incidents.

I cannot think of another play-related on-field fatality.

There have been a very few minor leaguers struck by lightning over the decades.

Umpire John McSherry collapsed and died during the first inning of the Reds game on Opening Day 1996, a heart attack (the game was postponed).

Orioles pitcher Steve Bechler collapsed and died during spring training 2002, complications due to ephedrine abuse.

Ray Chapman of the Cleveland Indians was hit by a pitched ball by Carl Mays of the Yankees in 1920. His last words supposedly was "Tell Carl Im alright" In a bit of irony the Indians won the pennent over the Yankees. The person that rreplaced him was Joe Sewell who went on be in the HOF and wound up on the Yankees

this year that guy in the minor league this year he was a first base coach and got hit with a line drive he was in the rockies farm system too the rockies are giving the family the playoff bonus that the rockies players get as well very nice gesture by the rox

Juan encarnacion is blind in one eye im pretty sure. he took a line drive to the eyesocket.
