With tomorrow being fall break the school age kids at the daycare I work at will be there all day. I'm trying to come up with new ideas, crafts, and activities to keep them busy and occupied. I'm thinking of doing Halloween/Fall crafts, a few things I thought I could have them do are, Hand print wreaths, Fall pictures, leaf rubbings, but I'm trying to come up with other things-I want to set up different centers and have them rotate through each of them in the morning-then change the activities to all new things in the afternoon and have them do those. So I'm open to all suggestions!! Keep in mind it needs to be something that doesn't require a lot of planning since I only have until tomorow morning!

Actually I think you are kind of stuck for tomorrow. Since you are a professional, be planning now for the NEXT school break. The breaks happen right on schedule, there is no reason for it to take you by surprise.

Have them do apple printing. Cut an apple in half. If you cut in half through the middle(top half, bottom half) you will get a circle with a star in the center. Have them dip them in paint and stamp on paper.
Make glue ghosts. Just take a piece of wax paper and put glue on the paper in the shape of a ghost. Solid shape, not just an outline. Decorate your ghost using felt, yarn, wiggly eyes, buttons or whatever you have around the house. Don't use heavy items as that will weigh down your ghost. Make sure to put a loop of string in the top to hang it from. Let dry overnight. After dry, just peel off and you have a cute ghost.
Have the kids make a macaroni skeleton. Give them each a black piece of construction paper and various uncooked macaroni and spaghetti noodles. Have them glue the macaroni to the paper in the shape of a full standing skeleton. These are so cute to make! It might be helpful if you make one first or at least have a picture of a skeleton for them to look at.
If you have any tootsie pop suckers, they can make ghosts. Use a Kleenex and center it over the sucker. Tie a piece of yarn around the bottom to hold the Kleenex on the "head". Use a black marker to add a face. Very easy and cute.
You could also make hand and feet turkeys. You have the kids trace around their feet(with shoes on) on brown construction paper. Then you trace around their hands on other fall colors of paper. You will need 7 hands.Cut them out. Put the feet heels together(overlapping) with the toe curve pointing out. Glue. This is the body. Arrange the 7 hands behind the feet in the shape of a turkeys tail with fingers pointing up. Glue. Add eyes, waddle, and beak made of construction paper. These are so simple, but so fun to see how very different each turkey will look.

Marshmellow pumpkin stacks are always fun, only a little messy and can be eaten too.
attach 3 or 4 large marshmellows to a wooden skewer. Have the children cover them in orange icing (or mix confectioner sugar with water and orange food coloring - messier but more fun and the result is a harder coating) use mini M&Ms or other candies and decorate faces on all pumpkins. Attach felt leaves and coiled green wire to the top of skewer to make the top of a pumpkin. cut off remaining stick on bottom or use it as a handle for the kids to hold. Have fun!

Next year, if you are still in the business of daycare for children, cut down the age of the kids you take care of to age 4 if you can. Otherwise, quickly hire some licensed retired teachers to work with the older children, take them on field trips. HIre a gym teacher to work with you to control those older children. Good luck.

Family Fun Magazine is the greatest resource I have came across in YEARS for great simple, you probably have the supplies on hand type of kids crafts. Go to their website and check out the neat stuff they have. Probably a worthwhile subscription for you in your profession!
