You do not, under any circumstances, practice rescue breathing on a live person who is breathing on their own.

You can simulate it or you can arrange to use a training manikin in a class.

Taking a CPR certification course at your local Red Cross or American Heart Association will teach you way more and you get plenty of practice. I highly recommend it to everyone.

That has to be about the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. Rescue breathing is meant to be done on a person who is not breathing. If the asthma attack is THAT bad, and the inhaler is not working, she needs to go to the hospital immediately. She could go into a condition called Status asthmaticus, which is extremely life-threatening. This case sounds like really bad and/or poorly treated asthma. AGAIN, if repeated use of bronchodilators is not working, CALL 911!

Coach T is correct. Do not practice the rescue breathing on anyone that is able to breath on their own. I also highly recommend taking a CPR class where you will learn rescue breathing, along with proper CPR. With knowledge comes confidence to properly handle the situation.

Visit the American Heart Association website to find classes offered in your area. If you happen to be in the Houston area, let me know...I am a CPR instructor myself!
