I don't think so because being independent means to not depend upon another and a relationship should be two people who can be independent making a choice to give and take in order to make a relationship work, and that requires loyalty too each other. It is not even a surprise to me that some women, and men as well for that matter, become so dependent upon the other person that they lose their independence and remain in a relationship which abuses and mistreats them to the point that they need to find those exits and use them to become independent from their abuser.

No, it doesn't surprise me. If one expects loyalty, one should be loyal. If one expects honesty, they should be honest. It's not surprising that someone would model the values that are important to them and hope of attracting someone who holds those same values as important.

It's certainly far from impossible to be both independent and loyal.

Only a very small portion of women want to be THAT independent from men. (I'm one of them.) Most want to be able to fend for themselves and still have a lover.

not really. those who want to have children want a stable home life and a man is part of that.
