I used to volunteer at an adult day services for elderly adults. This past April I volunteered for Austim Awareness Day at a zoo. Next Saturday I'm helping to build a house for Habitat for Humanity.

What about you?

I used to volunteer to sing (or play an instrument) at a retirement home during Christmas time, and now I just help every couple of months make sandwiches for the hungry and homeless (locally, and San Fransisco).

Yes, my 12-year old son & myself volunteer once (sometimes twice) per month at the local homeless shelter in our town. My son & I are both morning people, so we usually volunteer at either Breakfast or sometimes Lunch, to serve breakfast to homeless families in town. Each time we volunteer we spend about 2.5 - 3.0 hours each occasion. When we volunteer, the people receiving food are always very kind and very thankful that the volunteers are there to assist them.

I don't want my son to grow up and think that everyone in society is Middle-Class or higher. My son & I are middle class, but because he is enrolled in a special program for highly gifted children, he goes to school across town with a lot of wealthy kids; he doesn't know any 'regular" kids. I want my son to know that when he grows up there are all sorts of people at all different levels, but I didn't want to just 'drop' him into the world that I wanted him to see, so I thought that volunteering would be good for my son's character, it would teach him to help others and I want him to realize that there will always be people in society that need help. When my son grows up and becomes successful, I want him to know that he had better be compassionate towards others and that he had better be willing to help them.

I volunteer a lot. Every Thanksgiving me and my friends give out food to the elderly in the retirement homes. We also do stuff for little kids, and I've cleaned up litter at a park and elementary school. It's actually pretty fun.

Yes I did work for Habitat For Humanity as well here in Atlanta. I helped build a house and my dad and I helped a lady move out her goverment housing and into her own home. It was really great to see her face.

I used to volunteer for Texas Children's hospital. I would wheel the Art Cart around to the kid's rooms and brighten their day with coloring books, crafts, stickers, and all kinds of things.

Way to go, the world needs more people like you.

I volunteered at a retirement facility in their acitivities department when I was 13, and was a candy striper at the local hospital when I was about 15.

Yes.
But, I don't see what volunteering has to do with showing off how many days you go out in your community to "help those poor people".
I thought volunteering was done because you really wanted to help different people with different needs...just because you wanted to help.
