plz post a link that proves the fact i have to turn it in for homework and i can't find a site!!!!!!!!!

Flowers 'meanings' might change from generation to generation.

As far as why, like many 'funeral' flowers, they are long lasting. They've got to last at least 3days. In addition, back in the Victorian and early 1900's eras, funerals were often held in the deceased's home, or a relatives home. Warm weather meant that flowers wouldn't last as long, well, Calla's are tropical flowers and don't need so much cold to survive as cut flowers, again a good choice.

If you look at modern 'funeral' flowers, you'll see long lasting is a theme: Gladiolas, Carnations, Roses.
