Because not learning the language of people who come here is considered by mentally challenged people to be racism.

My opinion is that Americans are not afraid of learning spanish its just that if they don't have to why do it. The main tourist attractions in Mexico have english speaking employees. I believe that it would be nice if everyone learned the fluent language of whatever country they live in it would just be easier for everyone but the truth is some people can't learn as fast as others and that's how misunderstandings happen.

Because the government agencies are frequently having to deal with legal and illegal Spanish Speakers. It helps to have a Spanish speaker working in these offices in order to more easily facilitate their needs.

Spanish is one of the worlds most spoken languages. Its useful to know, even if you believe that Spanish speakers are scum that are all sneaking into our country illegally and are thus able to provide for their families... (I'm assuming your view here, I apolagize if I'm off on any points)

Also, remember that America has no official language. Also remember that Mexico is not the only Spanish speaking country. Also remember that the government is supposed to help the people that live in its country, whether or not they speak the majority language. If more Spanish speakers come to the U.S. (illegally or legally) our government has to help them, and the first step in that is having the necessary communication skills.

Americans don't have to learn Spanish, but for some jobs it is necessary.

If you don't want to learn Spanish, don't apply for a job that requires it.

You're right, Mandarin Chinese is more widely spoken than Spanish throughout the world. In America, it's not.

Most jobs require some skills. If a job involves interacting with spanish-speakers, the spanish language would be a reasonable skill to require.

Mexicans, believe it or not, have the ability to buy stuff. Our society is based on people selling stuff to other people, not the ideology of whether or not it's fair to have to learn someone's language. If you want to be able to maximize profits rather than be a mindless button pusher, you should learn how to communicate with Mexicans.

Because Mexico is in America!! My son learned "I love pizza" in Spanish on the school bus in 2nd grade. He's in the early stages of juvenile rebellion, however.

Seriously, I hope he learns Spanish fluently.

Instead of helping the Hispanic people to obtain their own democracy. We allow them to share ours and every thing comes with a price and the price is freedom for them and speaking Spanish for use.
