Bought a washer and dryer from Home Depot yesterday($800). Today an add comes out advertisment 10% off all appliances. How ethical is it to return and ask them if I can get the discount. One friggin day later and I could have saved and extra $80. Argh!!!!! What are your thoughts???

Take your paperwork and the ad to customer service. They'll give you the refund. They may have to redo the paperwork, such that it looks like you returned the items and then purchased them again. But, they'll honor the discount, no questions asked.

In California a consumer protection law provides that you can go back, bring your receipt and ask for the difference (I think if it's within a month after purchase).

I would go to the store and tell them nicely about it ,if they are not willing to comply I would tell them that you will return them and ask for a refund and then you can buy them at the sale price.

No worries. If you take your receipt in with your coupon, they will give you the 10% for sure. And it is not unethical for you to return it if they don't.

Take your ticket and show them where you bought day before.
They should have told you.
Ask to talk to Manager.
