Okay.. Remember the 'ol pythagorean theorem?

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

Well, you know that the ratio is 7:24, so it can look like this:

(7x)^2 + (24x)^2 = 50^2

Okay. Now square everything.

625x^2 = 2500

Okay - divide by 625, or square root everything. Since I am lazy.. I'll divide.

x^2 = 4

All you have to do now is square root everything

x = 2

You'll get x = 2.

Plugging x = 2 into the ratio 7:24 gets you:

14 for one side and 48 for the other.

Hope I helped!

let x be the varible

7x is the length of the first leg
24x isthe length of the second leg

pythagarian theorem
a^2 + b^2 = c^2

Or

(7x)^2 + (24x)^2 = 50^2

49x^2 + 576x^2 = 2500
625x^2 = 2500
x^2 = 4
x = 2

first leg: 7(2) = 14
second leg: 24(2) = 48
the hypyotent is already given which is 50

hope it helps

[9]
Let the legths of the two legs be 7x and 24x
respectively
Therefore,
(7x)^2+(24x)^2=(50)^2
49x^+576x^2=2500
625x^2=2500
x^2=2500/625=4
x=+-2
Rejecting the negative value of x as legs cannot be negative,we get x=2
Therefore the legs are 7*2 or 14 units and 24*2 or 48 units

x = 2
7x = 14
24x = 48
