"The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born first must destroy a world."
- "Demian" by Hermann Hesse
Maybe what you think of as death is really just the birth of something different, neh?

Dying's a *****. This last summer my dad died of cancer and for the last 2 weeks of his life, we (my family) were with him almost 24/7. So I got a pretty good taste of what dying's like, and I can't say I like it one bit.
Am I scared of dying? I don't know that fear is quite the emotion I feel. More like, if I ever met the Grim Reaper in a dark alley, HE had better fear ME. Dying pisses me off.
People who are actually excited about dying I think are a little creepy. I'm not just talking about suicidal people, but people who are all excited about meeting their god or Jesus or Allah. Life is for living! 70-80 years is all too short a time, so we should make the best of the time we have, rather than looking forward to death.

Not scared of death, not excited either. I am awestruck that both ends of our consciousness are completely shrouded in mystery.
Dying is a different than death though. There are some types of dying that I would find alarming - both for their discomfort and for my concern on how I might respond.
I would like to die in a way that is consistent with my values and ideals, that is to say with compassion and clarity. I would like to die undisturbed by fear or rage or grief. I would like to be completely in acceptance and surrendered when I go, so that I can face whatever comes next with same open-eyed curiosity that brought me into this life.
Of course my best hope for doing any of this is to practice these ways of being today.

No and no.
I'm more afraid of what might happen AROUND dying than I am of death itself. Maybe a little puzzled by it but other than that, there can't be much to make me afraid.
Some people can be excited about what it'll bring (as in Heaven and such) but I'm just wondering what it'll look like...descriptions only go so far.

I've thought it could be exciting when I'm dying. Not there yet though.

Death is the cessation of all processes associated with life. It is sleep eternal, a place of solitude lasting forever. And yet, who are we to say that death is the end? There are none that have traveled over to death and come back to say what it is like.
No, we cannot fear death. Nor can we be excited by what it brings. It is the knowledge that we are taking another great step, another winding path through our spiritual lives.
In short, no.

Either I have to say, I wouldn't to go right now but if I do as long as I go being brave. As long as I know when I die, I die for a good reason. Something everyone could look back on.
