Da Vinci. Invented the Helicopter in the middle ages. Invented the parachute. Scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician, poet and writer. A Renaissance man during the Renaissance period when there were so many geniuses. He still stands out.
Leonardo has often been described as the archetype of the "Renaissance man" or universal genius, a man whose seemingly infinite curiosity was equalled only by his powers of invention. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived.
Someone once told me that he could write with both hands, left and right AT THE SAME TIME. Two different things, at the same time. The left hand wrote backwards and had to be read with a mirror.

Alexander the Great..War may not strike a modern mind as a place for genius to show itself. However, in antiquity, war was a common fact of life. No people-society or culture was free from the threat of war..A peaceful, pacifist way of life is a modern invention and such beliefs or doctrines in antiquity, despite being valued, never found a foothold in the world beyond the written word....Warcraft, by the time of Alexander the great, was quite advanced in Greece. The Peloponisian war-conflicts with Persia brought about complex advancements in arms-troops-tactics and demonstrated the superiority of an army that fights as unit than individual warriors concearned with personal glory.....Alexander the Great born in Macedonia and his father,Phillip was a highly competant leader and soldier but unworthy of having such a son as Alexander...In his youth Alexander displayed bold initiative, uncommon brilliance and impressed Persian ambassadors with his astonshing maturity, bearing and brilliant questions he posed about Persian army, tactics, disciplin and leadership....When Phillup was dead Alexander stepped into the role as ruler with no learning curve to master..He easily beat the Celts-Germans,brought a rebellious Greece to heel and set his sights on the Persian Empire..Knowing Persian battle tactics which were dependent on intimidating opposing forces with sheer mass and numbers allowed Alexander to use his faster, better disciplined and smaller army to exploit gaps in defenses-cut persian line into managable pieces and route persian calvery which was never utilized to its potential...Alexander had the ablilty to scan the field of battle-make instant descions and extemporize tactics on the fly with flawless results. Julius Ceaser and Romes greatest commanders would have been no match for Alexander.....Persia fell as did every army he faced until the monsoons of India and low troop morale sent Alexander home..Every conflict is a miniture gem of strategic brilliance....Aside from battle alexander set out to popularize Hellenistic culture where ever he went and this had a lasting impact on middle east to India which general textsbooks gloss over and leave us ignorant of....Artists may seem more acceptable as genius's. However Leonardo has had a minute effect to history and Einstien therory has not changed any political-cultural or philosophical landscape-does not inform us on human history and to most people remains so abstract and incomprehensible as to have no value on the lives of billions of people...Alexander shaped his time and wrought our own by the genius of War and Culture

SIR ISAAC NEWTON BY FAR...i mean the guy invented calculus as well as the fundamental laws of motion...if you consider the impact he's had on science as a whole, he's probably more influential than Albert Einstein!!

julianhb4 is on the right track....I go for the guy who invented the plow....for that simple invention allowed farmers to produce enough food to feed more than just their families, allowing soldiers and inventors and merchants and teachers and cities and all that we think of as civilization, which only comes when you don't have to spend every waking moment getting enough food to live out that day......

I would say Leo Da Vinci because of his inventions, his wondrous paintings (and at the same time mysterious) and his great knowledge.
