America isn't looking beyond race by any stretch of the imagination. The whole Hurricane Katrina issue (and now the Jena 6 issue) has galvanized Louisianans on both sides of the racial divide...blacks are now all showing up to vote and so are whites. Neither will vote for the other's candidate and with the population being split down the middle, most elections are basically a draw!...
Insert the Indian guy, the lesser of the evils...he's brown which appeases the blacks...he's republican which appeases the whites...he's young, draws the women of both races because there are more women voters than there are men and every woman loves an attractive young man.

Bobby Jindal is not part of the Good Old Boy network and is the hope of the people to turn the state around.
Louisiana had had corrupt government for the last 40+ years and needed this change. Hopefully, it will spread around the rest of the state, replacing corrupt local government leaders who are on the take.
Unlike the Democrat and Republican Parties, the people looked beyond party, beyond ethnic background, and concentrated on what this person believes they can do for the state.
Good Luck

No they're not!
And the reason I say that is because if they were than you would not even be asking this question.
Here's one for you.
Why would you, or anyone, even notice if the newly elected Governor was a minority or not?
I would suppose it is because...YOU.... are not looking beyond race.
Here's another.
What are 2 or 3 of the major issues that this newly elected governor stands for?
I'll bet 90% of the people who voted for him/her really don't care.
The fact he is a minority is all that matters.
So...Let me ask you.
Is America, or the voters of Louisiana, looking beyond race?
You tell me!

If you noticed 70% of the people did not vote, because there was no one worthy of voting for.
communist republican Jindal is s fluke and he can have louisiana, they had Foster the republican communist Foster for 8 years and louisiana never inproved one bit and they would have elected David Duke and the media not said he was the grand master of the KKK, so what does that tell you

The voters in Louisiana have voted for change, it doesn't matter if you are incumbent, Republican or Democrat, if you are doing nothing, there is a good chance someone who is willing to do something will be taking your place.

Fred Thompson is pandering to minorities,so I don't think so. Louisiana had a lot to overcome. before the civil war they were the state with the biggest amount of blacks that owned slaves.
added. i wish someone would point out any error in what I posted. check Thompsons views on affirmative action and check out the census pre civil war

Exactly. Race was not a blocking factor NOR was it a tool to beat the electorate about the head with. The libs don't understand the last part.
So anyone who comes back with Obama next is merely being racist, not examining positions or thinking critically.

My guess would be. . . Yes.
New Orleans reelected Ray Nagin, didn't they? Even though he hid in the bathroom of Air Force One when it came time to meet Gov. Kathleen Blanco, Jindal's illustrious and famous predecessor, who would not deploy 87% of Lousiana's National Guard to New Orleans because she thought they were all in Iraq (even though she was their commander-in-chief. . .).
