c2d are much faster, BUT some games depending on how they are coded need the higher clock frequency to rely on smooth execution of the game.

Core 2 Duo being newer product would be faster than P4 if and only if the programming is done to leverage that potential.
But if it was a shelf box of some software better stick with P4 for speed in it, such leveraged programming is likely not there.

That depends on whether the program can make use of the core2 duo or not.
IF it can then that would be faster, if not then the program would only use 1 of the processors and it would be slower.
Not ALL programs are capable of using the core2 duo processors. I would contact the program manufacturer and ASK!

dual core processors effectively double the clock speed (I know thats not exactly the case, but still). So a 1.6 ghz core 2 duo is like having a 3.2 ghz processor. It also depends on how the instruction set is developed.

Unfortunately, processor clock speed is no longer a viable measurement for which processor is "better" or "faster".
The core2duo is the better - and newer - processor, despite it appearing to be "slower" than the P4.

1.6 core 2 duo. the pentium 4 is the worst processor on the planet by far.
