Should spanking your child be a crime?

I think spanking out of anger should be a crime (when parents do it because they are really mad, instead of taking a minute to calm down first), especially if it's anywhere but on the bum.

As others have said, if it's hard enough to leave a mark, that's abuse. And it should only be on the bum.

Trust me, it hurts more (i.e. more effective) when Mommy or Daddy sit down with Junior, explain what they did wrong, and then give the spanking, than hitting out of anger.

Oh, and in private is a must--no reason to spank in public, even in front of company at home.... that just makes the parent look bad.

No. Parents not spanking their kids is one of the reasons kids are so messed up these days! I'm not talking about beating your child, just give them a pop on the bottom and they'll get the picture. I grew up fine being spanked! Everyone I knew was spanked too and none of them turned out screwed up (well not cuz of spankings anyways). Parents have been spanking their kids for hundreds of years until some idiots came up with the idea that it's harming kids. Um no! Ugh

not at all. I honestly think that spanking is something that needs to be done more often. No I am not saying to beat your kid, but kids need discipline. No one makes their children listen anymore, and no I am not an old woman saying this I am only 27. Time outs do not work!! I would love to just sit and think about it when I do something wrong...it doesn't help! I think that people need to let parents raise their children instead of butting in all the time and telling them what to do, maybe then we will have less kids shooting up schools. ok sorry that was my rant :)

No.. I would rather give a kid a spanking when they are young than take them out back and give them a good butt kicking when they think they are big enough to take me on.That is the problem with the kids today.Everyone is afraid to spank those bratty little snot nosed kids that will soon grow up to be the punk that ends up breaking into your house when he grows up....

I have a feeling that little bratty ***** TAYLOR on kid nation was never spanked.....and that's exactly how undisciplined kids always act.
I had 3 sons, in less than 4 years. They were spanked when they needed to be---and they are now respectful, productive men in their 20s.
I bet $50 that TAYLOR won't be able to say the same!

No. There is a difference between spanking and beating. A hard slap on the butt is okay but it is totally wrong to beat the child mercilessly with sticks and other items.

No. The reason why the kids today are running rampant is because they know that they can call the authorities if their parents spank them, and so parents have no way of disciplining their kids. I think law enforcement needs to lighten up and let parents be parents.

Hell no, more people should spank their kids. What in the blue hell is a timeout? That is the stupidest form of punishment ever. Granted the first step should be to explain what they did wrong and then show them proper way to do it. If they do it again then an *** whippin is next.

Not at all. I was spanked growing up...and I came out just fine...kids need a little discipline, and no one can tell me how to raise my children. I don't beat them or hit them in the face, though...a few taps on the hand or the legs don't constitute "abuse."

Spanking..(no bruises) is a last resort form of discipline..when your child is just too hard headed to heed your earlier warnings..
