A Private Security guard has the same ability to make an arrest as you. It is called a citizens arrest.
If he only has a suspicion that you have done something wrong, then he would be a fool to arrest you. only if he had some hard evidence to substantiate his claim.
If you have just exited a location where he is employed, he can have you arrested for suspicion of stealing. and just like with any local police arrest you have the chance to state your case.
If in the end it is proven he had no real substance to his allegations then you could sue him.

The most a private security guard can do is make a 'citizens arrest' [in most jurisdictions] and hold the accused for regular police. Without 'police powers' there's no such thing as a legal arrest. The private security guy/gal can detain only but not arrest. If they're big enuf they can really really detain [no lie] and wait for a real cop. Otherwise, they're S.O.L.

first of all he can arrest you but as a citizen..."citizens arrest" and second of all if it takes place outside a buisness then yes it is wrong for what ever the reason he came up with is because a security officers job is to observe and report not to arrest as he pleases. He may be able to arrest you in certain cases depending on what the crime is and where it takes place but in reality, they are often told to avoid making an arrest unless really necessary because they dont want to give the impression of being a peace officer nor do they want to put theyr safety on the line thats what police officers are there for.

They have the same rights of arrest as any other private person, which is that they can make a citizen's arrest.
It varies from state to state, but usually a private person has authority to arrest someone who committed or attempted to commit a misdemeanor in their presence, or someone who committed a felony, although not necessarily in their presence.

If it is a citizen's arrest and that is legal in your state for whatever he is trying to arrest you for, yes. If he is an off duty police officer, yes. Otherwise, no and if he touches you, he can be charged with assault.

A private security guard can make arrests since it is his job but he must turnover the case immediately to the policemen.
