Ha!
I think we can conclude a couple things from today's longer life spans:
1) Modern medicine is effective in helping solve health problems and prolonging life.
2) Maybe all that supposedly "bad" stuff we are eating is not hurting us as much as some folks keep trying to tell us, eh?
;-)

We live longer because modern medicine helps us to continue to live after ailments that should have killed us.
In response to someone who thought that the food just might not be as bad? Thats just not so. The food that is bad IS that bad, and as for living longer - because of the bad food that is being ingested and because we have the modern medicine to keep you alive - all you wind up with is a longer life; but spent in misery because you had continued with a bad diet and now you should be dead from your ailments and conditions, but instead are being kept alive with the modern medicine - but with great pain, misery, and low quality of life; because as a society we simply dont like letting people die and so we keep everyone alive as long as possible - even when we shouldn't.

You know of course that your question is on the funny side. Preservatives diminish biological processes, and unfortunately, that only means your digestive system isn't allowed to process things at their required speed anymore.
There is one effect of preservatives in food though:
Dead people take longer to decompose.

We may live longer, but it won't be due to the preservatives we ingest. In fact, our livers only work harder to filter these foreign chemicals from our bodies.

No. Better meds keep us living longer, and knowing things to avoid.
Preservatives are probably making us sicker, having a higher cancer rate. But you look better longer after you die.
