The local TV news here in San Diego routinely gave updates on the welfare of local football and baseball players.

Forget about whether anyone had been hurt. We evidently just HAD to know if members of the Chargers and Padres were affected, because they're, you know, much more worthy than other human beings.

So in this horrific disaster, vapid celebrity worship is still thriving. As my mother used to say, "What the hell is wrong with people?"

On the bright side, that ghastly Fox "News" had Grrraldo Rivera reporting from the fires -- and to prove his bravery, he was standing about ten feet away from some flames that were blowing away from him. The wind suddenly changed direction so that the flames were now angled toward Grrraldo, and suddenly that twit was jumping out of the way as he stammered something idiotic like, "Wow, that's really hot." But he was fine -- which is proof positive that sometimes God DOESN'T answer prayers.

So, what do you think about this nonsense?

I would echo your mother's sentiments. Too bad about Grrraldo. The nice thing about prayer is if at first you don't succeed, you can try, try again.

Damn, he was that close and didn't get consumed by the fire? That sux butt! At lunch yesterday me and another guy saw some of the footage of the fires on tv but really couldn't hear what was being reported. We decided that if they catch the person or persons responsible for starting the fires, they should be put to death. Does California use the death penalty? Anyway, being hung on a courthouse lawn somewhere wouldn't be inappropriate and I'm REALLY glad the athletes are able to weather this storm so bravely as an example for all of us common folk........pftttt!

Wussy fire! If it had any guts it would have torched Geraldo. There is no justice.
The news idiots are so ingrained to celebrity updates, especially in California, that we will never be free of it. It is disgusting. I really don't care how many times Lindsay Lohan has dropped out of rehab, or if Brittney Spears drops her kids. I couldn't care less.

The most despicable thing about the wildfires will be the number of scam-artists, fake-contractors, and insurance lawyers who will take advantage of people in their most desperate of circumstances to set up phoney charity organizations, promise to re-build and then rip people off, and fight with these disaster victims for months and months in litigation over the coverage on their policies

If people would not watch the stupid things the TV broadcasters would have to shape up or be without a job. But trivia and mis- information seem to be the most important entertainment going. I do not watch TV of any sort.

it makes me angry too, the brave men fighting this fire get lost in the shuffle.... what about the victims. I don't give a rat's a** about the teams....I care about the innocent losing everything that they have worked for....
There is way too much hype with sports stars, movie stars and talk show hosts.....

Unfortunatley sensationalism sells as well as sex. I feel those people's pain and loss. And as far as Geraldo, well he's still trying to make up for the Al Capone's vault fiasco.
