a cuss word is just any word deemed inappropriate by your bond group. These are just frond upon and it is believed that you are less mature or refined if you use them. A "curse word" is a word actually used towards another person, these are words that show anger or make threats or defame a person. All the bible refers to is using the lord's name in vain - by which it means silly ways, or ways that are for ill use - such as god damn you - I have no right to ask the lord to damn you, and I am using it in anger to take vengions out - this would be wrong according to the bible - however, since I am an ordained reverend, I do have the power to banish 1 soul to hell.

A cuss word, ( curse word ) is any word that elicits a taboo within polite speech. These words serve as verbal exclamation points, when used correctly, and by this I mean, not over using them or peppering your daily speech with them as a space between thoughts, like "um".

Believe it or not, most of the biggies today, first gained popularity in the middle ages. Joan of Arc for instance used the "F" word quite liberally as did many church officials in their private writings. Although many years ago, one could be executed for Blasphemy, which usually involves invoking the Lords name, it is during the Victorian period, that such words take on their taboo status and thus enter the working class dialect that we know today.

Words change through time and society and can take on vulgar meanings based on cultural context. There is not specific way for a word to become a swear word.

If it's a word your parents would smack you in the back of the head for saying it's a cuss word...even if they use the word themselves!

That's a good question.
Usually it's a word that people don't like, or it's an offensive word. It could also be a word that doesn't pertain to an object, but you used it as if it did. For example, the 'B' word.

society makes cuss words cuss words, they have a harsh sound to them..that's pry why they started out...and crap used to be a cuss word, so i think it has a lot to do with what it's referring to...think feces, the devil, the rear, the act of having sex...etc, all things used to be tabooed...just not appropriate for talking about it public...

fashion,style,changes in society,class.
at one time in Britain "pants"was considered foul language
And, the word ***** was not always a "bad" word, there are two theories as to how it originated, one is from some german word i cant think of but the other that seems very likely is that it came from old court room lingo.at the time if you were charged with rape you were officially charged
"For Unwillful Carnal Knowledge",hence you were fcuked!

shock value to the people in the society where it is said. any word can become a cuss word if the shock value is great. saying "o sh*t" in the US has more shock value here than "o bugger" which means the same in Briton
