If you were elected President tomorrow, what orders would you give your Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State regarding the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba?

Return Guantanamo to Cuba because by historic right it does not belong to the US if the rules on International Law are observed.

The U.S. base at Gauntanamo Bay is American territory by treaty. As it stands now, the U.S. has a perpetual lease on the land, which is now of questionable validity. At present, however, I see no reason to shut it down.
Or did you mean the prison camp at Guantanamo?

I'd turn it over to Cuba immediately after stripping it of equipment. It's useless, eats up money and we could use the gesture as a great way to improve our dismal standing with South America at the moment. South America is turning left at a fast pace and GW Bush is asleep at the wheel about it.

I would order that all the enemy combatants be questioned again. I would also order that we not adhere to dietary rules that they want, but feed them whatever is cheapest!
These people are enemies of the USA and of freedom, and should have no rights!!
If they want to go free, they need to give us all the information they have and give us Bin Laden!

Keep it open. we need the presence there. I would also continue to use it to incarcerate the Muslim murderers we capture in Iraq and Afghanastan. These thugs are not soldiers and should not be given the accords of the Geneva conventions because they are not uniformed combatants of an organized government let alone the protection of our legal system.

We can not afford to shut down GITMO. It is important we stay there to keep an eye on the Nuts running the Country as they do have Nukes and they're only 90 miles from Florida.

I would want to see all the reports, understand what's really going on, stop the bad things, get the people trials, and keep it open. It would ONLY stay open as a means to keep dangerous people away from the homeland--but those people would be treated humanely, there would be status reports on a regular basis, and there would be due process.

I'd close the base down and bring my troops home from damn Cuba. As for the prisoners... put their asses on trial the American way! Public hearings on their own soil as our law of our land (and hence any free society) demands!

"Three hots and cot" are the only luxuries to be provided to the prisoners of war being detained at Guantanamo.
