If you didn't understand a symbol on a map, where would you look?

There should be a key somewhere on the map, that will explain all of the symbols used on the map.

there is, in one of the corners, a box called the "legend". it explains the symbols on the map

There's always a key to the map printed somewhere on it. keep looking.
