I have three different doctors in one medical center and they always disagree on my condition.

I feel like my pregnancy is going very well, no complaints, but instead of going once a month, my doctors always find a reason to bring me back every week.

At first I was not gaining enough weight, and I had to go every two weeks.

Then I failed my glucose tolerance screening and I had to come back for a three hour test. A week later one of my doctors said that my test was good and I do not have to worry about it.
Today I got a call from another doctor (the one who owns the practice) saying that one hour after drinking the solution my number was at 157. It is an OK reading, but she still wants to run additional tests on me.

Now it gets me thinking! The reading was fine with one doctor, while the other one, who owns the practice still wants to diagnose me with something that I do not have!
Are they just messing with me and my time?

Yes, my insurance service is not that great. I have to fight with them about every test they run on me. So far they paid for most of the tests, but it takes constant calling and arguing.

Doctors are supposed to find out if you have gestational diabetes.

I personally work in the medical field and yes doctor's make money off your insurance company. It's weird if you have one doctor telling you it came out fine and he wants to diagnose you again? there should be no other diagnosis to do after that one sugar drink (which is gross!). I would highly suggest asking around to friends that were happy with their doctor and maybe consider switching. With my first pregnancy I had my doctor which was about 30-45 miles away from me and I needed a closer doctor so I changed doctors when I was 5 months into my pregnancy. Look for a doctor that cares for your health and your unborn. Money means nothing if your not healthy

The fact is, even within one practice, doctors will have differences of opinion.

Maybe you could just stick with the one you are most comfortable with, and request that your appointments only be with that doctor if possible.

If your gut tells youthey are doing anything uneccessary, then refuse it. Say you are comfortable with the doctor's assessment of your test results. They cannot force you to do anything.

And yes, sometimes doctors aren't thinking of the cost to patients when they recommend or prescribe.

They aren't trying to deliberately run up a bill. Doctors often have disagreements about how serious a borderline test result is and some are more likely to want to act than others.

IMO, it's always better to err on the side of caution and if that means run extra tests, then so be it.

Do you have insurance, or are you paying out of pocket?

I would say that they are really trying to ensure that all is going well with you. I was in the same boat somewhat. I had to see my doctor 3 times in one week. Well one of those was a specialist that they sent me to. But it turned out everything was well. I think they are just trying to be on the safe side. Doctors are tired of being sued.

If this is your first pregnancy, then they are being cautious, because they have no idea how your body will respond to pregnancy (everyone is different!).

But that sounds WAY too stressful to be healthy for you. You need to let them know that you appreciate their thoroughness, but you need to keep your stress levels down so that you can take care of your baby and your body.

Also, take some measures to get ONE doctor. Then, you won't always be getting mixed messages and people disagreeing about your condition!

I would personally think that you would want a overly cautious doctor just to make sure you and your baby are doing well. I would want to know I was getting the best care from different doctors opinions.

They're afraid of a future malpractice suit. Insurance for ob-gyns is through the roof, because they all get sued constantly. They don't want you coming back some day and blaming something on them.

157 is high. It should be closer to 100. I would ask to only deal with one doctor and let the doctors know that. I think they are trying to do the best for you and your baby. However, after your story, I'm thankful I only have to deal with my one wonderful OB/GYN. Good luck!

if it is still early in your pregnancy, i recommend that you find a new Ob. the reason for prenatal care is to make sure that everything is okay and from what i read, it seems that you and your baby are fine and that they indeed want to make money off of you.

They want to make sure that your baby doesn't come out overweight. Women who have gestational diabetes are more likely to have obese children.

Think about your baby's health. It's not a money scam, it's about your health and your baby's health.
