I can't decide of this arouses me or if it is the most repulsive thing. She is a chain smoker, can the bird get sick?

Ok thats gross.lol Can the bird get sick? Probably cuz that makes me feel a little sick too. Poor bird.

Love birds live the longest, need to be in pairs, and are very expensive.Finches are just too noisy. Canaries are pretty, but not as interactive as some other birds; So my choice would have to be parakeets from the list you've given, but having owned them, I like a cockatoo the best.
