at what point in history did men and women's clothing separate into two different styles eg, pants for men and dresses for women?

In some societies, even today, it's the women who wear the pants and the men who wear the skirts. They call them sarongs, or togas or lava lavas, dhotis, or kilts, but they are still skirts. Many women in eastern countries wear harem pants - so there was never a universal divide on men's and women's clothing.
But when did clothing begin? Probably when the first cave man draped an animal hide over his shoulders and discovered it was warmer than going without. As for when men and women began wearing different clothing - that's anyone's guess.
