My OB listened to my babies' heart rates and said they were fast and would be girls.....both boys. Nope, don't believe it.

It is not precise and correct enough to be considered reliable evidence, but there is most definitely a TREND. I've monitored hundreds of pregnant women in my profession and boys generally have slower heart rates (110-130) than girls (140-160). It isn't true for every baby. All three of my children fit the profile, but some do not.

Nope...my first would definitely be a girl, as his average heart rate was in the mid 160s, my second would be a girl, as his was average in the 150s to 160...my third would also mostly be a girl, as his heart rate has been anywhere from mid 150s to 130 this last time (the only time a baby of mine has ever been that low in pregnancy).
Note my nickname is 'My3Boys'.
My OB finds all of these old wives' tales quite entertaining...and no, none of them have any basis in truth.

There were a couple of major studies that showed heartbeat is not a reliable indicator of gender. In fact, there were great discrepancies between the heartbeats, so much that the studies there wasn't even a trend that existed.
With every wive's tale you have a 50/50 chance of being right so that's why they persist!
I've had 3 children and the heartbeat theory never held for any of them.

My bestfriend was pregnant, and the ENTIRE pregnancy the heartrate was fairly rapid...and the doctor kept telling her it was going to be a girl....
She went out and bought TONS of cute girly outfits...but, when the time came to have the baby...
it was a boy! :)
I don't believe that it's true all the time....

at 7 weeks 1 day the heartbeat was 160
at 12 weeks it was 150
at 16 weeks it was 125
at 20 weeks it was 136 and i found out it was a girl.
i'd always heard girls were over 150 bpm & boys under, so it wasn't true for me. even if it were the other way around, her little heartbeat was all over the charts! (she's also a bit lazy during the day, as i've discovered. she sleeps all day--and during OB appts, and is awake at night. that should be fun later, huh? lol)

My doctor has told me that she thinks i'm having a girl by the heartrate, even though it's a old wives tale she says it has held up. I hope to find out next week during our 3 gender determining ultrasound((crossing fingers))

I'd like to believe it's true since I just got a reading that said my baby was about 140 beats a minute (not sure what gender that would be) but I think it is just an old wives tale. Sad!!

Thats not how it goes, a boy has a heart rate of over 145, a girl has a lower heart rate. It was true for my first, he was consistently around 150, and he's a boy, but I'm pregnant now and its supposed to be a boy but he's normally around 140. 7 weeks til I find out!
