It is Dronabinol (Marinol is the more commonly known brand name) and it is a synthetic version of the active ingredient in "weed", THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). It is used as an adjuvant for pain and to relieve nausea as a side effect of chemotherapy and to stimulate appetite.

I am a Registered Nurse and have cared for many patients who have been prescribed Marinol. Patients I have cared for who used it said that it was not nearly as effective as the "real thing". They claim that the "high" one CAN get on it, is not so good, either. One man said he got "really messed up" and several of my patients complained of emotional disturbances they related to it INCLUDING psychotic episodes. Despite it helping to relieve their nausea, these episodes were so disturbing and they were so upset by the side effects, they refused to take it again. These patients said they did not have those side effects from marijuana.

It is normally prescribed at a higher dose to ward of chemotherapy related nausea and the risk of the "high" and adverse effects is greater than when it is used at a lower dose for an appetite stimulant for the HIV patient. At the lower doses used for appetite stimulation one may indeed, not get high. Yet the beneficial effects are not nearly as effective as marijuana.

The American Nurses Association has a position statement in support of legalization of marijuana for medical use partly based on widespread knowledge that marinol is not as effective as the chemical from marijuana, THC. I support its legalization for medical use. The quality of life of patients is important to me as a nurse.

Here is a partial list of organizations in support of its legal use for medicinal purposes:
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - America's second largest cancer charity
American Academy of Family Physicians
American Public Health Association
American Nurses Association
British Medical Association
AIDS Action
American Academy of HIV Medicine]
Lymphoma Foundation of America
Health Canada

Write your congressman if this concerns you.

There's a synthetic THC pill called Marinol - its not really pot, but its supposed to have effects similar to pot. It sounds like the pill you are describing. I have never had it.

Actually from what ive read, the high isnt supposed to be as intense because it is obsorbed through your stomach instead of your lungs, and it takes longer to take effect. but if you take more than your supposed to it does some weird chemical reaction and it can be more intense. but you can also get a little too ****** up if that happens.

It's marinol. It's for people who have no appetite due to cancer treatment or Aids.
It doesn't really make you high, it just increases your appetite.
