Enfamil and Similac are good but I would use the concentrate not the powder, cause the powder has more bubbles and can cause painful gas. And don't let those uber-strict breastfed mommies hassle you with their propaganda. We all know that breast is best, ideally, but not all moms are in ideal situations and formula is a great alternative. If you feel guilty (although you shouldn't) try breastfeeding during the day and bottles at night which will also allow you to get more sleep :) And if you have to switch to only formula, that's OK too, it doesn't mean that you're lacking as a parent, in any way.

hi, nuture gold 1 starter is what he needs, it has all the same nutrience as breast milk (not as good as breast milk though) including omega3 & 6 for brain and eye development, manganese unsure what it helps but know it's esential, iron for healthy blood and muscles. It also has DHA whice is not in breast milk (helps with hand and eye co-ordination later on in life. the same thing happened with my breast milk. see if u can express it helps (if u can get the hang of it.

Enfamil (Mead Johnson) and Similac (Ross) are two companies doing a lot of nutritional research, and I am partial to recommending them for that reason. But they are certainly more expensive than some others.
But really, I think you should discuss this with your pediatrician.

Two weeks isn't that long. It's a learning process - both for you and Baby. I would recommend you keep trying. Contact your local La Leche League branch, and/or contact your OB/GYN to get a referral to a lactation consultant. She will help your baby learn to latch on properly. There is no formula that even compares to nursing; if you read the back of any formula container, it says the same thing. If you keep at it, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time. Unless your baby is turning into a skeleton, he's getting plenty to eat. Give it a few more weeks and see the consultant, and if that doesn't work, then resort to formula. Good luck!

My daughter has done really well on Enfamil Lipil. I wouldn't recommend generic formula. Similac Advance is also supposed to be good.

I would keep trying and trying to breastfeed if I could. That is best for baby but I'm sure you've heard that hundreds of times. Maybe you could try pumping your milk out and feeding him/her. If it just won't work, I have heard Enfamil Lipil formula in the yellow can is one of the best. I breastfeed, but I give my baby that formula sometimes when I haven't pumped enough and I'll be away for a few hours. It has never upset her tummy, but all babies are different. Good Luck and keep trying really hard to breastfeed!

My little girl did really well with Enfamil.
Note to all of you breastfeeding zealots-I had planned on breastfeeding, but could not due to a medical condition, so please don't be so judgemental.

I would steer clear of powders, and I reccomend organic baby formulas, Similac is good. (ready-to-feed)

have you tried pumping every hour, increasing water, brewers yeast, fenugreek, oatmeal or domperidone to increase your supply? also an SNS
have you met with a lactation consultant to try to figure out why your baby will not take your breast(nipple confusion can be overcome). your milk will increase as the demand increases. you may also be making more than you can pump, some woman are not able to get much by pumping.
please make sure you have exhausted allllll routes to increasing your supply and getting him to latch. canned formula is ranked as the 5th best food for a newborn by the world health organization. I would seriously not want to give my baby the 5th best available(goat milk ranks ABOVE formula as better for a baby). also remember that the crap in a can you buy at the store just may be that, It is NOT sterilized and has a fairly high rate of contamination,(according to the US CDC the rate is about 52%). so please even consider going to a milk bank or finding a donor before going to formual. there are always options
