Who thinks it is cruel to have a bird as a pet- having it's wings clipped and making it live in a cage? Why or why not?

Well...I think it CAN be cruel, but it is not necessarily cruel. I'm sure there are bird owners who let them out of the cage for much of the day and let it fly around. Clipping the wings seems cruel to me. Also, I could see some people having huge cages for them to move around in. I think what is more cruel is the food industry and the way it treats chickens and other birds and animals. I would see our food supply as much more cruel than someone keeping a bird as a pet. Those conditions are awful and would make keeping a pet bird in a cage look like heaven. But, to answer your question...it can be cruel, and much of the time probably is a little cruel, but it doesn't rise to the top of my list of cruelty to animals as there are more immediate and more cruel practices taking place. I wish all animals could simply live their animal lives...a bird gets to be a bird...a cow gets to be a cow...etc.

I think its cruel to keep a bird in a cage but if they were bred in captivity they dont know any better, A bird in a cage needs lots of attention, talking to, time out the cage and toys to prevent boredom.

I would clip its wings and feed it to my cat. I hate birds.
