My checks have been getting bigger and my bank says they need specific paper work to avoid trouble for using another name. It's sounds weird but nobody that I know out here in Hollywood seems to know where to go and and get that paper work. Can someone help? Thank you.

Your best bet would be to contact a lawyer. Something about being able to prove it's still you under a pseudonym.

You can also do a simple 'fictitious name' statement... a sort of DBA but as you are making more money, you should consider, establishing your stage name, as a business entity. This will not only allow you to cash your checks, but will protect personal assets from problems that could arise from business. Just some suggestions, definitely consult an entertainment lawyer.

If you're union, the credit union through them knows all about these things. I never needed an extra anything with them. Also your union card has your stage name on it. That's a form of ID. You can also ask your agent to write your checks to your 'average joe' name instead of your stage name solving that problem right there. Go to your union and your agent and ask their advice. I know bank policies have changed in the last few years :-)

good luck!

Get a hold of a lawyer specializing in entertainment law. They could probably handle all of this for you. Also, if you have an agent, speaking to them would be a good place to begin as well.

Legalzoom.com

You file for a Fictitious Name or D.B.A. (doing business as). Legalzoom does it for about $100 and they file everything. They are totally legit and a lot cheaper than going through a lawyer.

I did it. It is really easy.
