make a playlist(s) that you want on your ipod.
When the ipod is plugged into the computer, under the music section of the ipod screen in itunes, uncheck entire library and check off the playlist(s) that you want.
then sync the ipod again.
your girlfriend can do the same with her own music, without getting each other's songs on each other's ipod, since the computer can recognize each ipod individually as to what to sync.

I synced different IPODs on my computer but I had to change the playlists each time I did it. I bought an MP3 player instead and that solved my problem. I got tired of keep on having to change the playlists. Although all the songs and such were saved on the computer so it didn't make me reload the songs.

Don't get it to synchronize the library with each one. I would just make 2 playlists, one for each of you and just drag it onto the iPod. That's what my brother and I did.
